Hi, WE'RE THE OUTRAGE.
We’re a female-founded activist apparel company that is, you guessed it, outraged and catalyzing a new generation of activists. We are retail, community space, and activism in one. You, too, can be outraged here.
WE POPPED UP.
The Outrage originally started in a living room on a search to find feminist apparel that was ethically produced and aesthetically on point. We didn’t find it, so we made it. We launched from that very living room ready to celebrate the first female president with the ‘Nasty Women Unite’ collection, donating 100% of profits to Planned Parenthood in Donald Trump’s name.
Plot twist, we didn’t celebrate our first female prez, but we moved out of the living room and into the arms of outraged people.
In January 2017, we opened as a six week long pop-up shop as the official partner for the Women’s March. People were waiting at the door when we opened, and the line steadily grew to a four hour line for over a week. People came to the space looking for merch but also came looking for a community space, a place to share their concerns, a couch to sit on, and somewhere for all things activism to explode. We extended our lease and never left.
LOVERS OF EQUALITY CONVENE HERE.
We are female founded, women run, and totally badass. We are rooted in intersectionality and believe the personal is political. We believe in the right to be outraged, and we use this outrage as a catalyst to action. We believe no one should ever have to tone down their emotions for someone else’s comfort. Our bodies are on the line and WE. ARE. OUTRAGED.
OUTRAGED that women’s rights are still not human rights in 2018.
OUTRAGED that people of color are disproportionately paid less, incarcerated more, and racially targeted within our communities and institutions.
OUTRAGED that any human being could be called an “alien” or “illegal.”
OUTRAGED that gender and sexuality are not culturally recognized on a spectrum.
OUTRAGED that access to education is not equitable.
OUTRAGED that guns have more rights than humans.
OUTRAGED that we prioritize economics over the environment.
OUTRAGED that able-ism excludes both physical and hidden disabilities.
OUTRAGED that the land we inhabit is stolen land from indigenous communities.
OUTRAGED that all workers are not paid a living minimum wage.
SO, WE'RE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
We found that sweet spot of people convening for a cause and the desire to buy apparel that supports that cause. Through apparel sales and community spaces, we are fighting back.
We are on a mission to raise $1 million for organizations that fight for a just society. Through apparel sales, we donate to a progressive organization with every. single. purchase. This is not marketplace feminism. Instead, we're supporting activists that want to convene together and support businesses they trust. At the Outrage, every business decision is a chance to think ethically and responsibly. Our products are ethically sourced, WRAP certified, and 100% on point.
We created spaces for you to fuel your outrage into social change. In our community spaces, we ask the question, “What do you do with all this outrage you have?” The answer: We organize, energize, and empathize by:
- Hosting community events (100+)
- Registering people to vote (1000+ this far)
- Teaching people how to contact their reps (2000+ pieces of correspondence mailed)
- Engaging the experts in our local communities to provide workshops on: running for office, combating sexual harassment in the workplace, fighting racial injustice, and oh. so. much. more.
- Providing resources in our activist library.
- Being a ‘brave space’ - an environment for honest and meaningful conversations that allow us all to learn and grow. The world is not equally safe for all people, and we do not ignore this reality by claiming to be a ‘safe space.’
As a company, we are a team of womxn. We are bi, queer + straight. We are women of color + white. We are from different generations and geographic locations. We are atheist, agnostic, and religious. We have different backgrounds and different beliefs, and push each other to open our minds and diversify our thoughts. Interested? Check out open positions here.
As a space, we are open to any and all (pups, too!). At whatever point of the activist journey you’re at, there’s room for you on this rollercoaster.
